Escape the Everyday in Your Bedroom Oasis

After what has seemed like the longest winter, it is finally starting to feel like spring. A couple more days, and green sprouts will be making their way above ground!

Those adventurous little sprouts might inspire some change. Perhaps now is the time to consider doing something for yourself. Why not create a space that’s all yours? The Master Bedroom is a place that’s made for rest, but you can also transform it into a personal oasis, away from the regular hustle and bustle of your home.

Here are a few guidelines for decorating your master suite. These trends are current, but classic and can be used now and in the future.

When picking the colours for your bedroom, choose ones that you love and can use throughout the space. This goes for everything from furniture to wall colour to blankets and pillows. White is a timeless choice that calms and relaxes. White has the benefit of being styled with any colour, although pastel accents of blue, green, pink or brown are very contemporary choices.

If you don’t have the time to add colour by painting, consider an accent wall of wallpaper. Wallpaper has been staging a comeback for a couple of years now, and it is totally different than what used to be in your grandma’s den. Amazing modern patterns are available that balance your rooms colour scheme. For example, the wall behind your bed could have a bold pattern, balanced by a solid headboard that picks up on one of the colours in the paper. For an even more dramatic choice, choose a metallic wallpaper. Check out our pinterest board for some great Wallpaper Inspiration.

Design your bedroom as a single-purpose space for resting and relaxing. Avoid using your bedroom as an extra home office, work out, or family play space. As busy parents, we know we need all the sleep we can get, so it’s important to note that when you cram too many extraneous items into your bedroom, your sleep can suffer.

You want the design of your restful space to be as uncluttered as possible. Having an overflowing closet isn’t going to help create that refuge that you’re looking for, so invest in a great wardrobe system. If you don’t have that space, consider the uncluttered look of under-bed storage. This can be built into your bed unit or you can buy convenient rolling bins. Either way, you’ll be keeping your room neat and tidy, which will enhance the relaxation that you find in your bedroom.

Adding luxurious textiles to your bed is going to give your bedroom a tactile style that will make you want to sink into it. Try buying touchable bedding that has softness and comfort, like thick and fluffy blankets and euro shams.

Texture can also be added in other areas of the bedroom, like the window treatments or headboard. Curtains will not only add a look of warmth, but also add actual warmth to the room by keeping cooler air from entering the room in the winter. They can also add to the room by helping keep out sleep disrupting light.

On a Budget?

If you can’t afford a total overhaul of your personal space, there are a myriad of ways you add improving changes. Trying a fun wall decal is a great way to add a splash of colour that isn’t as permanent as wallpaper or paint. Upgrading the hardware on your furniture can give your pieces a completely different look. Changing out a light fixture can be the upgrade that you need without breaking the bank. DIY projects are also a must, especially on larger pieces like furniture. By using a little sandpaper, elbow grease, and paint, the furniture you already own or interesting thrifted items can create a different look, while saving you a lot of money.

At the end of the day, make sure your bedroom is a place you feel comfortable. You don’t mind if the kids hop in for a snuggle on a lazy Saturday morning, but you also want to know it’s your private space where you can let go of a long day.
